Above and to the right, these pages are taken from D. M. Moser’s personal black notebook from about 1900 when William McKinley was president and the US census from 1890 was 62,622,250. Some helpful information from the book: “How to keep fresh meat a week or two in the summer,” “How to drive flies from stables,” “How to purify water in a cistern,” and “Simple cure for a felon.” From Gems of Knowledge, “The average human life is 31 years old,” “The capitol building in Washington is the largest building in the United States,” and “It is a fraud to conceal a fraud.”

The Moser Farmstead was written by Leslie Stewart Abernathy in 1986 and is part of the Arkansas Archeological Survey Research Series.

Nellie Moser’s book, Grandmamma’s Surprise Party, given to her in 1880.
